of whoever might be the winner and it looks like it might be mitt romney. we are looking at mitt romney and newt gingrich headquarters there. they appear to be incredibly empty at this point. they will fill up and there will be jubilence at mitt romney headquarters if polls are right and he may read poetry. we have one of the ugliest robo calls in history. it's amazing. you don't want to miss that. let me give you some of the numbers right now. first of all florida delegates up for grab are 50 and it used to be 99 but of course florida cheated and jumped ahead and got punished, lightly spanked by the republican national committee and are down to 50 delegates. of course, 1,144 delegates are needed to win this race so all the candidates are quite distant from that. even after florida, only 5% of the delegates will be in, so we've got a long way ahead of us if people don't drop out. what are the latest polls in florida? mitt romney has a facial substantial lead at 43% over newt gingrich at 29%. santorum and ron paul are having fun at 11%, but since winner takes all rules apply in florida,

results as soon as they come into the war room. this is really important night for mitt romney and rick santorum. you are in the war room. join me. ♪ >>> okay. so first we're going to go to the big board for the latest results from michigan. we have 10% of the precincts reporting. the red is santorum. the purple is for romney. look over here for example, in wayne county only 3% reporting. in that case it's 51% for romney. if you look above wayne county it's oakland county. this is where romney is from. 47% for romney. but look all the way west here. grand rapids kent county that's only 2% reporting, but it looks like it's going to santorum. look to ottawa county. this is the most conservative county in the state of michigan 53% for santorum. if you look way up north, up here this is a fairly conservative area 75% of the precincts reporting, you can see it's a small number of people 41%. same thing here, marquette 53%. kind of interesting to me here that these northern counties are going for romney. so we'll see how this comes in but as i said we only have 10% of the p
. santorum may be riding a wave in delivering a setback for front runner mitt romney. it's still very early. a lot of drama ahead. we'll check in with wolf. >> let's go out to colorado. paul is standing by in aroura, colorado. paul, tell us what is going on right now. >> they are just wrapping up, in fact, they announced the totals, 22 precincts in this room. that bell weather county, mitt romney, 78, 28 for santorum, and 20 for pule. so a great night for mitt romney in this room, and more shots of democracy at its best. you can see them collecting some of the money here. yeah, she says we're collecting instead of spending. she's a mitt romney supporter. tonight, they had to raise the money to hold this in here. 22 precincts in all in the county. this county divided very evenly like much of colorado where you have a third republican, a third democrat, and a third independent. as i said, 78 votes here for romney tonight. more than doubled up the rest of the field, wolf. >> from aurora, colorado, to minnesota, what do we know there, chris? >> well, wolf, here in scots county, just 20 miles ou
can now project that mitt romney will easily win arizona, as expected. leaving rick santorum a distant second in that state. that means the former massachusetts governor will take all 29 delegates in arizona, a winner-take-all state, padding his lead now in the nation-wide hunt for delegates. >> exit polls show newt gingrich slightly ahead of ron paul for third place in arizona but it's too early to say whether that lead will hold. now in michigan, romney's native state, he holds a slide lead oversup, but it's too early to project who will come in first. >> but fox news can project that ron paul will take third place in michigan, leaving newt gingrich in fourth. the michigan projections are based on votes from sample precincts, statewide raw votes, exit polls and survey of absentee voters. >> michigan awards their delegates mostly by congressional district, making it likely that romney and santorum will be the only two candidates who divide the 30 delegates. >> to repeat the top news at the top of the ticket right now, romney has taken arizona and has a slight lead over santorum in mic
have thought anyone would get close enough to mitt romney in his home state to warn any suspense at all about the results of michigan. but tonight, there's suspense. the polls have been wicked close heading in tonight in michigan and this is therefore, a big night for presidential politics. chris matthews, what is your take? >> before we get in the results, we have to remind ourselves through the circus we have been watching the past several months about the stakes of the fight. who makes the big decisions in our country about peace and war, how the burdens of society are shared. future of our health care, you look at a couple candidates who emerged at the top, romney and santorum, you have to think this is scary to some people. first of all you have one candidate, romney, who speaks calmly of going to war without nervousness. we'll go to war with iran if he's president, they won't have nuclear weapons. what an ultimatum. he talks how we'll let the ought d -- auto industry die. santorum wants to go back before the griswald decision, we outlaw birth control, not just abortion. speaks lig

romney a new burst of momentum, he won 46% of the vote, outpacing newt gingrich meeting the polls we had including the nbc one that had the spread at 15% on sunday. gingrich at 32%, santorum at 13%, ron paul who did not campaign in florida, got 7% of the vote. the win gives romney all the delegates, has 70, 47 more than newt gingrich heading in the nevada caucuses this weekend but a tiny percentage of the 1144 he needs to land the nomination. what shaped the win in florida? nbc polls showed he won the support of 62% of voters considered moderate. 60% of people who made more than $200,000 and 59% of cuban americans. also 57% of republicans who don't support the tea party. romney won 52% of female voters, compared to 28% of women who went for newt gingrich. among male voters, romney won 41-36. romney is struggling with the conservative wing, 41% believe he is not conservative enough to be the republican nominee for president. 41%. 38% of voters would still like to see somebody else get in the race. >>> mark halperin will look in the number and tell us how much longer newt gingrich will sti
